Snow and 2025: A New Year

Published on 9 August 2025 at 14:36

I am re-posting this from the beginning of the year, as I am transferring my old blog site to here:

Snow.

That is what we do in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, in the winter.  And winter lasts for a long time, up here.

Last year, we had more snow than I had seen in more than two decades (living in the South).  I was told that it was the mildest winter the we had seen in the Upper Peninsula for decades.  When the snow started falling in the last 6 weeks of 2024, it was an amazing site.  Much more snow that I had seen in all the previous years (in the South) combined!

Fresh snow is beautiful.

It was a winter wonderland when my wife and I headed downstate for holiday celebrations.  None the less, after returning home from family gatherings, we went through a warming trend up here.  While the snow did not completely melt away, not very much was left, other than the gray dirty looking snow.  The driveway was completely clear…making things easier for me. But even so…

Again, I love the snow.  It just needed a refreshing.  What remained of the snow didn’t have that clean, and, well…..“Christmas Card Snowy” kind of look.

That is the way things looked out my window on the last day of 2024.  Almost like early spring up here, in the U.P.

On the first morning of 2025, we had snow, once again. All of the old, gray looking snow had been refreshed and renewed by the fresh falling snow.  It is snow that is predicted to fall almost every day for the rest of the week.

This morning, at the first sight of things outside of my kitchen window for the first time in 2025, God reminded me of something.

““Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow….Isaiah 1:18 ESV

“…love covers a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8 ESV

As a nation, I believe that we have one more chance at redemption.  I believe that there is a remnant of true believers in our nation.  I cannot deny that.  However, it is my belief that sin in our nation is rampant and soiling any sense of “In God do we trust”; something that I believe our nation was founded on.

I am not open to political arguments based on what I am saying in this post (just don’t).  From my perspective, even churches in our nation have become Godless.  I am not saying that our newly elected president will be our savior.  Our Savior is Jesus.  I believe that, despite what you think of this change in the executive office, some of the nonsense going on in our land may, at the very least, slow down and give us a chance to turn some things around.

I also believe that, if we don’t turn to God soon (again, as a nation), the degradation will become worse than ever before.

God is saying that He will cleanse us, cover our offenses and make us become as pure as that white snow that I saw fall over the unclean ground.  His love will cover the multitude of our sin.

This is not just for any individual who may read this and find themselves drawn to Jesus but also for our nation to turn towards Him as well.  We need to fall back onto the tradition of God’s Word.  We need to turn from our wicked ways, seek His face and let Him heal our land.

This is it. It is all coming down to what God wants to do for all of us, now.

What do you want?  What do you anticipate that God will do?
