About Us
Welcome to the About Us page for Douglas and Virginia Oxford and The Night Watches.
At the beginning of his professional performing career (in 1987), Douglas Oxford worked with a prominent underground hard rock Christian band, Armada. After leaving Armada, he formed his own band, The Yearning. Douglas performed in churches and Christian clubs all over Michigan with the Yearning or sometimes just as a solo artist. In those years, he had the opportunity to share the stage with Steve Wiggins (of Big Tent Revival), Greg X. Volz (formerly of Petra), David and the Giants, Bash-n the code, Margaret Becker, Barren Cross and Whitecross.
Then, throughout most of 1998 and 1999, with his newly formed trio, River Avenue, he ventured into new Christian coffeehouses with a new style approach that brought to the forefront the more “folksy” songs that he had only performed now and then.
While living in Michigan, Douglas also assisted in leading worship at the Lansing Vineyard Christian Fellowship. In that time, he also attended and completed the Worship Pastor Training Program in Cambridge, Ontario, led by Dan Wilt.
Douglas moved to the south in 1999 and for the next 24 years, played alongside various musicians while living in the Augusta, Georgia area, including local songwriters with Nashville connections. He found himself immersed in a new music scene with a different approach and style than he had known in Michigan. Douglas was able to meet, and sometimes played a song or two with a few different country gospel musicians, some with major backgrounds in Country and Country Gospel music. For several years, he was the side guitarist for The Byrd Family at Bible Fellowship Church (and also when they had occasional shows in the region).
Douglas is also an ordained chaplain and, in his heart, he would like to be in ministry full time as an occupation.
Douglas and Ginny were married on Christmas Day, 2022.

Soon after Ginny gave her life to Christ in 1985, she found a deep desire to share the Gospel of Jesus. Over the years, she has served as a missions coordinator at her home church and a speaker on behalf of the persecuted church through Open Doors. She coordinated prayer events at her local church and became involved with Evangelism Explosion which she eventually taught and led. She has participated in short-term mission trips to Thailand and Guatemala and volunteered with her church’s youth group.
Having a love for music from an early age, she has sung on many worship teams as well as been a regular soloist, and acted as the worship leader at the Saint John’s Free Methodist Church as well as the Faith Alive Assemblies of God Church in Saint Helen Michigan. She has also assisted in two church plants by leading worship. Ginny began writing original worship songs in the early 90’s and has been a prolific songwriter since that time.
Ginny studied voice at Wayne State University and graduated with an interdisciplinary degree in English and Communication from Michigan State University in preparation for her life direction. Always studying the Word of God and learning from excellent teachers through independent reading, conferences and various broadcasts, she is focused on living a life that lines up with the Scriptures.
After marrying Douglas, she started sharing songs that God had given her to write over a few decades.

Douglas and Ginny have been working on these songs, picking the strongest of the bunch and trying to arrange them in a way that makes them easy to understand, and brings a desire to sing along in worship to God.
With a combination of the Hymn arrangements that the Holy Spirit has inspired Douglas to arrange and Ginny’s songs, they bring to you The Night Watches, a Sunday evening live-stream prayer service that includes these songs, along with a time of prayerful intercession, a brief message and a time for communion.
Douglas and Ginny would love to bring The Night Watches to your church, home fellowship or even to your retreat. Bringing a blend of music from old to new, original and re-imagined, they will work together to present a Holy Spirit filled time of reflection and worship that is focused on the inerrant Word of God.
