...let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ...
...Be at peace among yourselves. And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all. See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil. Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it. 1st Thessalonians 5:8-9, 13-24

I do not view the Christian faith as a series of rules and regulations. On the contrary, what we prove in our lives is that the law (as God set forth) leads to death. It points out that we, as men and women, fail to do as God would command. The payment for that failure will surely lead to death. None the less, as the Holy Spirit works in our hearts and changes us from one degree of glory to another, we find ourselves desiring to do certain things that God would command. Some of those things are referred to as the disciplines of the faith.
At the end of his first letter to the Thessalonians, Paul offers some guidelines we need to follow. First, he is telling us to be at peace with each other. This includes a correction to those in error and also encouraging those who are weak. That will require patience, which is part of being loving. We strive to see the very best for each other and not to do harm. As a matter of fact, we are to stop ourselves from doing any kind of evil. (That is a tall order for all of us, no matter how good we think we are). We are to “hold fast to what is good”.
The Apostle Paul also tells us to not let a move of the Holy Spirit be stopped. (I have seen this happen too many times). We are not to turn our nose up at prophecy but rather are to weigh it out. That will take honest prayer and listening to God. In many cases, it will take a degree of humility in order to get ourselves out of the way and to hear what God is really saying.
God is able and has set us apart from the world to do these things. He alone is faithful to work out salvation in our souls.
Our hearts are protected by faith and love. Our thoughts guided and protected by the hope that is found in salvation, by grace and faith in Christ Jesus alone. As far as that goes, Faith, Hope, and Love come from the Holy Spirit in us, as Christ sends the Holy Spirit to work these things out in our lives.
Seek Jesus; He will do these things in you, for the day He comes again.
